Why I built 757 Waterfront
Finding a good contractor is harder than it should be. I’ve watched neighbors post “does anyone know a good dock guy?” on Facebook more times than I can count, and I’ve done my share of asking around too.
Where the idea came from
Doing it the right way takes time
Right now I’m acting as my own general contractor on an insurance claim for my house, lining up the subs one at a time. It’s a reminder of how much time it takes to do it the right way: checking licenses with the state, asking about insurance, getting three quotes. Most homeowners know they should. Between kids, work and everything else, few have the time. You just want someone good, at a fair price, who shows up and takes care of the problem.
757 Waterfront is the starting point I wish I’d had for every contractor I’ve ever hired. Each marine contractor here is sorted by the work they do and the areas they serve, with their Virginia license shown as the state lists it. You still make the call and choose who to hire. I just want to save you the first few hours of digging.
Where it goes from here
Starting at home
I’m starting with the waterfront in coastal Virginia because that’s home. Over time I’d like to bring the same idea to more areas and more kinds of work, so finding a licensed contractor gets a little easier wherever you live.

Who does the work, where, and how to reach them
757 Waterfront is a free directory of residential marine contractors in Hampton Roads, the Middle Peninsula and Virginia’s Eastern Shore: dock and pier builders, bulkhead and seawall contractors, boat lift installers, and living shoreline specialists. Search results for waterfront work are full of lead generation sites that collect your information and sell it to whoever pays. Here you see who does the work and reach them directly.
What this site is
- Local companies with their websites and phone numbers, so you can contact them yourself.
- A license check for every listed contractor. I look each one up with the state and show what I find on their listing. How to read the license info.
- Plain English guides to costs, permits and storm damage, so you can plan before you call.
What this site isn’t
- I don’t do or supervise any work, and I don’t collect your information or sell leads.
- A listing isn’t an endorsement. Always check licensing, insurance and references before you hire.
- Firms that work mainly on commercial, marina or government projects aren’t listed.
