Getting three estimates is good advice, but they rarely match. One contractor quotes 40 feet, another quotes 50; one includes permits, another doesn’t. This free form fixes that. Send the same project details to every contractor, ask them to fill in the same questions, then compare the answers side by side.
Type into it on a computer, or print it and fill it in by hand. Nothing you write is sent to us. See how to save your answers below.

Project details
The type of project, size, water depth, equipment access, permit status and timing, so every contractor quotes the same job.

Contractor estimate
License number and class, insurance, scope, materials, who handles permits, price breakdown, payment schedule and warranty.

Compare your estimates
A side by side table for three estimates, plus eight questions to ask before you sign.
How to use it
- Fill in page 1 with your project details. Photos of the site help a lot.
- Send pages 1 and 2 to each contractor by email, or hand them over at the site visit. Ask them to complete page 2 and return it with their estimate.
- Check every license yourself on DPOR’s license lookup. Our license guide shows you how.
- Compare the answers on page 3, not just the totals. A lower price that leaves out permits, disposal or a warranty often isn’t lower.
Saving your answers
The form opens in your browser so you can start right away, but your browser won’t remember what you typed if you close the tab. To keep your answers:
- On a computer: use Download to my device, then open the saved file in Adobe Reader or Mac Preview, fill it in and save as you go. If you opened the form in your browser instead, click the download icon in the viewer before you close the tab.
- On a phone: tap Download to my device, then open the file from your Files or Downloads app to fill it in. If that’s awkward, fill it in on a computer or print it.
- To pick up where you left off: save the filled form to email, iCloud or Google Drive, and you can open it again from any device.
For contractors
If a homeowner sends you this form, page 2 is all you need. It asks for the same things a careful homeowner would ask anyway, and a complete answer makes your estimate easier to choose. Want to be listed on 757 Waterfront? Listings are free.

This form is a free planning tool, not a contract. Your agreement with a contractor should be in writing and signed by both of you.
