Common questions
How do I find a contractor?
Use the filters on Find a Contractor to search by project, city or license, or browse by city or by type of project. Then call or email the contractor directly.
What areas do you cover?
Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Smithfield, Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, Yorktown, Williamsburg, Gloucester, Mathews, Middlesex and the Eastern Shore. See all cities.
Is it free?
Yes. Browsing the directory and contacting contractors is free. I don’t sell leads or pass your information to anyone. When you reach out to a contractor, it goes straight from you to them.
Do you check licenses?
Yes. I look up every listed contractor with Virginia’s contractor board (DPOR), and with the State Corporation Commission when a license is filed under a different name. What I find is shown on their listing. How to read the license info.
Where are the guides and checklists?
On the Guides page: costs for bulkheads, docks and boat lifts, permits, licenses, what to check after a storm, and free checklists for waterfront buyers and sellers.
I’m a realtor, lender or inspector. Can I share the checklists?
Yes, they’re free to print and hand to clients. If you’d like a copy with your name and contact info on it, send me a message and I’ll make one for you.
I’m a contractor. How do I get listed or update my listing?
Listings are free. Fill out the short form on the For Contractors page. I check your Virginia license, confirm your details by phone, and your listing usually goes live within a few business days. To update a listing, email info@757waterfront.com with your changes or photos.
